THE FUN STUFF
Do you have any nicknames? T.I.K. are actually initials for Thomas Ian Kevin.
Who do you look up to? Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Shirin Ebadi, and Simon Whitfield, to name just a few.
What is the last thing you watched on Netflix? Planet Earth. It is inspiring and also sad. We need to have more conservation and less development.
Do you have any lucky charms? My wife, Sinead, and my dog, James.
What’s your guilty pleasure? Sneaking away from horse stuff to read a good book at the pool. The last book I read was The Elephant Whisperer. One of my favorite guilty pleasure books is Jack Reacher.
What’s the first thing you do when you get home after a long day? Shower, snack, and play with the dog. Not always in that order.
Who is your equestrian idol? I have so many. Jonathan Field, Ian Millar, Anne Kursinski, Ingrid Klimke, I could go on and on. Also, of course my parents—my dad was a show jumper and my mom was a dressage rider. Another idol of mine is my wife, who is also an accomplished eventer.
If you weren’t in the horse industry, what would you be doing? I’d love to try to make a go of it as a writer or journalist. I just published my first book with Trafalgar Square Books called In the Middle are the Horsemen.
What is your favorite horse movie? Buck.
What was your worst fall off a horse? I had a horse flip over on top of me, then roll over me. In a concussed state of mind, I got back on and the same thing happened twice more.
